Girl Scouts

Girl Scout Troop #5113 helps prepare girls for a lifetime of leadership and success, the ability to make a difference and establish friendships while providing adventures in a safe environment. They gain important skills in four areas that form the foundation of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience: Science, technology, engineering, and math(STEM); outdoors; life skills; and entrepreneurship.

Spanish Literacy for Adult & Teen Native Speakers

A weekly class taught in collaboration with the University of Arkansas Spanish Department’s service-learning course. This curriculum is designed for students with a Spanish-speaking background who wish to enhance their vocabulary, reading and writing skills, and cultural competence. This literacy enrichment program's main objectives are 1) to develop reading and writing skills in both Spanish and English, 2) to increase knowledge and understanding of cultural heritage, 3) and to make further connections at school, home and in their community.

Sin Límites

The Latino Youth Biliteracy Project is an outreach initiative of the Department of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures of the University of Arkansas established in 2011 in Collaboration with the Latin American and Latino Studies Program and the Oficina Latina. University students enrolled in SPAN 4563, an upper-level Spanish service-learning course, participate in a bilingual literacy enrichment program for elementary and middle school Spanish heritage speakers. The main goals of the program are 1) to develop literacy in the home language, 2) to provide a culturally relevant curriculum, 3) to promote academic excellence and college readiness, 4) to offer mentorship by college students, and 5) to establish bridges between the students’ families and the school.
